As a Technician in Indian Railways, the job profile involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of railway machinery and infrastructure. For Grade I Signal posts, responsibilities will include handling electronic signaling systems, sensors, and digital railway technologies. Grade III technicians, mainly ITI-qualified, will work on field-level equipment such as tools, engines, and track systems. They assist senior engineers and contribute to the safety and efficiency of railway operations.

• Eligibility Criteria:

  The eligibility varies by post. :

  For Technician Grade I Signal, applicants must have a B.Sc. in Physics/Electronics/Computer Science/Information Technology or a Diploma/Degree in Engineering in relevant technical fields.

  For Technician Grade III (ITI) posts, candidates must have completed Matriculation (10th pass) along with a valid ITI certificate in approved trades, or have undergone Apprenticeship training as per NCVT/SCVT norms.

  The age limit for Grade III is 18–30 years,
  and for Grade I, it's 18–33 years.

  Note: Age relaxations apply to SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and other reserved categories as per government rules.

  The selection process consists of a single-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT) followed by Document Verification and a Medical Examination. Candidates must prepare thoroughly in subjects such as Mathematics, General Intelligence, General Science, and technical trade topics.

• Application Fees:

  The application fee is ₹500 for General/OBC/EWS category candidates. However, ₹400 is refunded after the candidate appears for the CBT (Computer-Based Test). For SC/ST, Women, PwD, Ex-Servicemen, Transgender, and economically weaker sections, the fee is just ₹250, which is fully refundable upon CBT attendance. This makes the application cost-effective and accessible for underprivileged aspirants.

• Pay Scale:

  The pay structure is lucrative under the 7th Pay Commission. For Technician Grade I, the salary is fixed at Level 5 with a pay band of ₹29,200 – ₹92,300. For Technician Grade III, the pay band is Level 2, offering a salary range of ₹19,900 – ₹63,200. Alongside the basic pay, employees are entitled to allowances like DA (Dearness Allowance), HRA (House Rent Allowance), travel benefits, and medical facilities.
