Under the Citizenship Act of 1955, the Indian government has chosen to award Indian citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who are now residing in two districts of Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express train, the third in the Vande Bharat series, between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The two additional Vande Bharat Express trains, which began service in February and October of this year, operate from New Delhi to Varanasi and Katra, respectively. The 'Vande Bharat 2.0' Gandhinagar-Mumbai Express train travels 540 kilometers in 6 hours and 30 minutes.

The Cabinet Appointments Committee named Rajiv Bahl, a renowned World Health Organization researcher, as Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Bahl is the World Health Organization's (WHO) director of research for maternal and newborn health, adolescent health, and aging. He will also serve as Secretary of Health Research (DHR). The Army has enabled satellite broadband-based internet service atop the Siachen Glacier in partnership with Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL). At a height of 19,061 feet, the glacier is located in the Himalayas' eastern Karakoram range. The BBNL is a totally owned government-owned supplier of broadband infrastructure. It is operating under the Bharat Net scheme to deliver internet connectivity to rural and distant locations using satellites.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the groundwork for the 'Kartavya Path' at India Gate in New Delhi. Kartavya Path will have landscape improvements, lawns, new green spaces, rehabilitated canals, enhanced parking, and new exhibition panels. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), in collaboration with the Serum Institute of India, is preparing to launch India's first indigenously created Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus (qHPV) vaccine against cervical cancer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India accounts for almost one-fifth of the global cervical cancer burden, with 1.23 lakh cases and approximately 67,000 deaths each year.

Indian capital market regulator SEBI issued guidelines regarding execution of ‘Demat Debit and Pledge Instruction’ (DDPI) for transfer of securities towards deliveries or settlement obligations and pledging and re-pledging of securities. SEBi has decided to widen the scope of DDPI to include Mutual Fund transactions being executed on Stock Exchange and tendering shares in open offers through Stock Exchange platforms

The Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment of Prashant Kumar as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD &CEO) of Yes Bank for three years. Earlier, the alternate Board of the private sector lender recommended to the Reserve Bank of India for its approval for the appointment. Before joining Yes Bank, Prashant Kumar was Deputy Managing Director & CFO of the State Bank of India (SBI).

The World Bank downgraded India’s economic growth forecast to 6.5% for the current fiscal year (2022-’23) from its earlier estimate of 7.5% announced in June. The Reserve Bank of India had also cut its growth forecast to 7% from an earlier estimate of 7.2% after increasing the repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.9% to fight inflation. UNCTAD also projected that India’s economic growth will decline to 5.7% this year from 8.2% in 2021.

The customised index will be presented as a quantitative measurement for policy makers and enablers to nudge businesses towards adopting an ESG framework in their business strategy.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has reappointed Dilip Asbe as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of the company for a period of five years. Dilip Asbe took over as MD&CEO of NPCI in January 2018. NPCI is an umbrella organisation for operating retail payments and settlement systems in India.

Amazon announced its first solar project in India with three new solar farms in Rajasthan, with a combined energy capacity of 420 megawatts (MW). Amazon aims to use 100% renewable energy across its business by 2025. The Indian project includes a 210-MW project to be developed by ReNew Power, a 100-MW project to be developed by Amp Energy India, and a 110-MW project to be developed by Brookfield Renewable Partners.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Shaktikanta Das recently launched three key digital payment initiatives at the Global Fintech Fest 2022. The initiatives include RuPay Credit Card on UPI, UPI LITE, Bharat BillPay Cross-Border Bill Payments. Through UPI Lite on BHIM App, users will be able to make small-value transactions in near-offline mode. The upper limit of a UPI Lite payment transaction will be ₹200. The total limit of the UPI Lite digital payment mode on the wallet on a device would be ₹2,000 at any point in time.

The Reserve Bank of India will run the pilot projects for digitalisation of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) lending from this month in the select districts of Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The project is being developed by the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH). It aims to make KCC-based lending more efficient by reducing costs and turn-around time for borrowers, and improving credit flow to the rural population.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has notified a framework introducing a Social Stock Exchange (SSE) in India. The new category of exchange will provide social enterprises an additional avenue to raise funds. The SSE lists non-profit organisations (NPO) on stock exchanges and provides them with an alternative fund-raising avenue.
