Early Life of Jawaharlal Nehru

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Motilal Nehru, was a famous lawyer and a freedom fighter. Nehru belonged to a wealthy and educated family. From a young age, he was interested in science, politics, and history.

He completed his early education at home and later went to Harrow School in England. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, and later pursued law at the Inner Temple, London. After finishing his studies, Nehru returned to India in 1912 to practice law.

Jawaharlal Nehru’s Entry into Indian Politics

After coming back to India, Nehru was inspired by the Indian freedom struggle and joined the Indian National Congress. Jawaharlal Nehru married Kamala Nehru in 1916. They had one daughter, Indira Gandhi, who later became the first woman Prime Minister of India. Nehru was very fond of children, and that is why Children’s Day (Bal Diwas) is celebrated every year on November 14 in his memory.
